Six Mashups Worthy of A Holiday ‘Cheers’

Whether you’re drinking to celebrate family or drinking to tolerate them, there’s a bevy of festive beverages that would often seem unseasonal or out of place at any other time of the year. Works for us – it’s something additional to look forward to beyond food, family, and gifts. Better yet, they’re damn tasty, and they can definitely help keep us sane with how hectic the holiday season can be. Here are a few suggestions from our lovely (and possibly alcohol obsessed) staff members.

  1. The Hot Toddy, Pair with ‘River’ by Joni Mitchell

“I love a hot toddy! It makes me feel like I’m cozy by a fireplace whether I’m home or not. Great for when you’re feeling under the weather, and it goes down real easy.” -Dayana Kupisk, Blog Editor

  2. Bourbon Pumpkinataur from Capital Brewing, Pair with ‘Must be Santa’ by Bob Dylan

“The Bourbon Pumpkinataur from Capital Brewing reminds me of being in this old Irish pub in my hometown with a group of friends on New Years’ Eve a couple of years ago. I think back on the memory and I’m reminded of velvet dresses, Christmas lights, couples whispering in booths, and the view of first snow outside of the windows of the cozy bar. The beer itself is warm and cozy and has a sweeter side to it, so it’s perfect for the holidays!” – Hillary Gunn, Marketing Coordinator

  3. Baileys and Coffee, Pair with ‘Christmas in Hollis’ by Run-DMC

“Baileys and coffee is a drink I have fond memories of; I’d have it over Christmas break with my mom while making breakfast or baking cookies. Last Christmas break, a bunch of friends and I watched The Big Lebowski, so we made a Christmas White Russian with peppermint Schnapps, naturally.” – Erin Bates, Social Media Intern/Street Team

  4. Kinderpunsch, Pair with ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby

“Kinderpunsch (German cider with lemon, honey, cinnamon, and orange) always puts me in the holiday spirit. My grandpa used to sing “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby in his mellow voice while we drank these.” – Haley Schmidt, Snapchat Captain

  5. Hot Chocolate and Peppermint Schnapps, Pair with ‘The Fairytale of New York’ by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl

“I like hot chocolate with peppermint Schnapps. It’s two holiday classics mixed into one. For some reason, I thought it necessary to buy an entire bottle of peppermint Schnapps, and I have no idea what to do with it other than putting it in hot chocolate. So it works out.” – Kasey Breda, Talent Coordinator/Box Office Manager

  6. Mexican Hot Chocolate, Pair with ‘Stranger at the Table’ by Jeremih and Chance the Rapper
“Mexican Hot Chocolate (spicy hot chocolate with tequila). The spice of the pepper wakes up the senses and helps take in the holiday feeling. The sweetness of the chocolate smooths it out, and the tequila may just give you the courage to reach out and say, ‘Merry Christmas, Lil Mama’.” – Nate Tegge, Street Team
