This Change Everything – Clean Wisconsin 2017 Doug La Follette Environmental Speakers Program

“What if global warming isn’t only a crisis? What if it’s the best chance we’re ever going to get to build a better world? Change or be changed.”

Directed by Avi Lewis, and inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction bestseller This Changes Everything, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines. Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.

Clean Wisconsin, the state’s oldest and largest environmental organization, is pleased to present a special one-night-only screening and discussion of This Changes Everything at its bi-annual Doug La Follette Environmental Speakers Program.

This event features a live video introduction of the film by Naomi Klein, followed by a discussion with Alexis Bonogofsky, a Montana farmer, organizer, and activist who appears in the film.

For more than a decade Montana farmer, activist, and writer Alexis Bonogofsky fought coal development in southeastern Montana as the manager of the Tribal Lands Partnership Program for the National Wildlife Federation. Alexis promoted alternative energy solutions and fought environmental destruction by building strong and lasting coalitions between indigenous groups, ranchers, and hunters and anglers. A Lannan Foundation Cultural Freedom Fellow, Alexis is now working with Naomi Klein on an ambitious project aimed at training a new generation of community organizers and citizens to give them the skills to renew and reclaim our democracy and help activists rediscover the art of community organizing. Following the screening, Alexis will talk about her experiences highlighted in This Changes Everything, and discuss her work with Naomi Klein.
